What do I ask the florist?

Asa florist myself, I often get brides that don't have a clue what they actually want...Or wha tot ask...or even any of the terminology.

This likttle guide will help you if you are one of those brides!

I'll go through the questions you should ask, the most common terms used and i'll een throw in some ispiration for you! Although for the ultimate inspo board, take a look at our Pinterest!

What Do I need to tell them?

Most Florists will have a list of questions they will go through with you before they can give you a quote, but it's handy for them and quicker for the whole process if you have the inofrmation to hand already.

1 - What arrangements do you need?

2. How many of each do you need?

3. What material would you like used (i.e. fresh, foam, silk sola wood, paper etc.) - I have done a seperate post on the difference and the pros and cons of each.

4. What is your colour scheme or theme?

5. When is the weddig? When would you like your flowers by (if you are ordering anything other than fresh, some florists will be happy doing them earlier than you need them, especially if your wedding is in a busy period as they'll be able to do them when they have fewer orders in instead).

6. What kind f budget do you have? - You don't have to tell them the exact amount but it will give them an idea of what they can offer you (if you do give an amount, give it lower than what it actually is to give you some room for adaptation)

7. Any flowers that you like or definitely want including. If you want just that one flower, tell them, if you want a mixure, tell them.

8. If you have any inspiration pictures that you like, show them. This helps them get onto the same wavelength as you and know what it is you are looking for.

9. If you are looking for decorational pieces, give them sizes where posible to ensure they can give you an accurate quote.

10. If you want added sparkles such as diamantés and pearls, tell them at the beginning so they can adjust prices accordingly rather than having to ad it in later on.

All of this is necessary to not only allow them to give you an accurate quote, but to also give them an idea of your budget and what you are looking for so that they can tell you straight away if they can or can't do it for you.

What do I need to ask them?

1. Do you do the type/style that I am looking for? (Many florists will onyl stick toa syle that they know.)

2. Is my date available?

3. Are you able to do it to my budget?

4. How long have you been in business? This will give you a good idea of how good they are. If a company has been bin business for multiple years, chances are they are trustworthy. Don't forget that small business that have been running for a short time can be just as trustworthy as well.

5. Have you done others like this? Can I see pictures?

6. Can I review your portofolio?

7. Are you oing any other weddings on my day (this is mainly for fresh florists or those that need to set up as if they have multiple booked on one day, it can mean they may not pay as much attention to each one.

8.What would you call you design styl? i.e. minimal? rustic? etc.

9.What flowers would you reccomend?

10. If going fresh - What flowers are in season on our date OR ARE our flowers available on our date?

11.How will they be stored? or, if they are artificial, What are the conditions for storing them and keeping them fresh and new?

12.How will they be transported to me?

13. Are there any additional fees? - Most florist will charge an on the day fee, or setting up fee.

14.Do you provide any additional decorative items?

15. Do you have any offers that would suit my needs?

16. Do you have any freebies going at the moment? Don't be afraid to be cheeky - If you don't ask, you don't get.

Type of arrangmenets

Teardrop/Cascade Bridal bouquet

A teardrop bouquet is as it says, a bouquet in the shape of a teardrop. Cascades are similar but are less unofrm in shape and are more waterfall like.

Round bridal

Messy Bridal

These are round bridals but done with a loose and natural look.

Bridesmaid

Bridesmaid bouquets are typically smaller than the brides and usually are differetly designs as well. For example, the bride may be yellow with grey in it, but the bridesaids could be gry with yellow in to tie in but stand apart fro the bride.

Maid of honour

The maid of honour often has something different again to the bridesmaids, or sometimes has the same as the bridesmaids but the same size as the bridal.

Flower girl posy

The flower girl posy is a very petite arrangement, usually, only a couple of flowers bunched together, and is easy for small hands to hold. This is usually ideal for children 8-13.

Crown

These have a very whimsical and rustic feel to them and are very practical, leaving hands free to hold other items if needed. They're great for a boho look.

Headband

This is a great alternative to the crown, for those little ones that are likely to take it off and use it as a frisbee.

Wand

This is a great alternative to a posy for young children to have, and it gives them something to play with after the ceremony, they can wave it around and pretend they are a fairy/

Hoop

These have come into fashion more recently and are a nice alternative to a flower basket.

Wrist Corsage

Wrist corsages are feminine yet practical for if the bridesmaid has lots of other things to be doing on the day, such as looking after little ones.

Pinned corsage

This is usually reserved for the mother of the bride/groom but sometimes bridesmaids and maids of honours will wear them as well.

Flower basket

Buttonhole

This is what the men wear, the groom will typically have a double or even triple flower one whilst the best man and groomsmen will have a single/double.
